It’s that time of year again where you need to buy a present for that person in your life who has absolutely everything, and as far as useful and fun gifts go, a smart lock could be right up their street.
So, whether they’re a gadget nerd, or they just love knowing that they are safe and secure, here are 4 smart locks that are perfect for Christmas.
August Smart Lock
What we like about the August Smart Lock is that you don’t have to replace your entire lock to install it, only the inside. This is a great solution for those who don’t want to highlight the fact they have a smart lock, or don’t want to upset the outside appearance of their house.
You can use a tradition key in the August Smart Lock as well, with the added smart phone compatibility that allows it to detect you approaching and to open the lock without you having to do anything at all. The lock will also detect that you’re leaving and lock itself, so you never have to worry about whether you remembered to lock the doors again. The August Smart Lock also features Apple HomeKit integration and Amazon Alexa compatibility for those who are building an entirely smart home.
A more traditional looking lock, the Schlage Sense is another Apple HomeKit enabled smart lock for those who are looking to build a smart home, however if you don’t have a lot of Apple products, this lock has its limitations. You can assign virtual keys to those with iPhones and control the lock through an Apple TV if you have one.
For ease of use you can also use the built-in keypad to assign key codes to visitors which is a handy feature.
The first smart lock on the market, Kwikset’s Kevo is a great all-rounder. With an easy to use touch-to-unlock feature, all you have to do is tap the lock with your finger as long as you have your smartphone or a Kevo keyfob in your pocket. This is a great feature, as many other smart locks require you to get your phone out of your pocket and open an app which is almost as time consuming as taking a key out of your pocket.
Using Bluetooth to verify your identity you will have no worries about who can access your home, and you can also assign a digital e-key to anyone who you would like to have access as well for an additional cost.
Focusing mainly on keyless entry, this is a lock without a key and our favourite smart lock. Using your smartphone users can hold up their phones up to the lock and make a key turning gesture to unlock their doors with this smart lock. It may not be as easy as tapping the lock like some of the other options, but you can also assign five virtual keys for free or use the built-in touchpad if your phone runs out of battery before you get home.
